The Characteristics and Types of Cylinder Dryer

The cylinder dryer is a drying machine commonly used in the ore beneficiation plant and it has similar structure with single-cylinder cooler. Inside it there are various kinds of heat transfer devices in order to improve the efficiency of heat transfer. When it is used for processing sticky materials, hammer-type heating device can be equipped on the outside wall of the cylinder in order to make the materials stuck on the cylinder wall drop down, and large quantities of returning materials can also be used to control the water content.

The advantages of cylinder dryer are high adaptability and simple and convenient operation, and its disadvantages are low heating efficiency of below 50%. The drying medium is high-temperature gas which is produced by the specially equipped burning room or other waste gas of other metallurgy oven.

According to the different methods of heat transfer, the dryer machine can be divided into three types: direct heat transfer, indirect heat transfer and compound heat transfer.

The direct heat transfer dryer machine means that the high-temperature gas directly gets in touch with the materials in the cylinder. According to the flowing direction of the materials and the gas, it can be divided into clock-wise drying and anti-clockwise drying. Clockwise drying is suitable for materials with high water content and anti-clockwise drying has high heat transfer efficiency, but since the dry materials touch the high-temperature gas, it is not suitable for materials that have temperature limit.

Indirect heat transfer dryer is also called double-cylinder dryer. The hot smoke go through the central cylinder, and the heat is transmitted to the materials from the central cylinder, as a result, the heat transfer efficiency is low. This type of dryer is suitable for drying materials that cannot be directly dried by high-temperature gas.

Compound heat transfer dryer also has double cylinders. This dryer is suitable for drying coal.
